Best AutoCAD Books to Help You Master the Software

AutoCAD is a software application for 2D and 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting. It is widely used in many different industries, including architecture, engineering, and interior design.

Since it’s software and frequently updating its features, it’s better to buy the newest version of following books. However, if you’re buying an old version, there will be a conflict between the version on your computer and the book.

Here is a list of books that I have referred through my career.

Overall Best: AutoCAD 2022 Instructor by James A. Leach, Shawna Lockhart

Best for Interior Design: AutoCAD 2021 for the Interior Designer by Dean Muccio

Best for Exercises: Beginning AutoCAD 2022 Exercise Workbook by Cheryl R. Shrock, Steve Heather

AutoCAD 2022 Instructor by James A. Leach, Shawna Lockhart

AutoCAD 2022 Instructor is the best book I could find for AutoCAD. It starts with basics and progresses through immediate topics to advanced topics.

The book dives deep into many advanced concepts with simple instructions which anybody can follow. Moreover, it includes many shortcuts and effective ways to use commands as well.

This is the one book that I can recommend to anybody who wants to earn AutoCAD.

Beginning AutoCAD 2022 Exercise Workbook by Cheryl R. Shrock, Steve Heather

This book is not like other books and it’s an exercise book. You can practice these exercises as much as you want and that’s the way you can master AutoCAD.

These exercises most of the new features that come with the AutoCAD 2022 version including redesigned start tab, count, floating drawing pad, etc. So, this book is even popular among professionals.

I can recommend this book to all beginners, immediate learners, and advanced learners.

AutoCAD 2022 for the Interior Designer by Dean Muccio

This book simplifies the process of learning how to use AutoCAD software by presenting it in the form of a series of step-by-step tutorials. Although learning how to use the AutoCAD program may appear difficult at first, this book can assist. This book is ideal for interior designers who are just getting started with computer-aided design (CAD).

Because it teaches AutoCAD in a method that is well organized and builds off of information taught in earlier chapters, this book stands out from the competitors. The guidelines and descriptions in this book are written in a way that makes them simple to understand and follow. Furthermore, the pricing is reasonable and affordable.

Mastering AutoCAD 2021 and AutoCAD LT 2021 by Brian C. Benton, George Omura

The books help you to do AutoCAD drawings from concept to creation using different features such as hatches, fields, and tables. And it also includes step-by-step tutorials for 3D modeling.

I could learn about using blocks and groups more effectively using this book. One of the notable things in this book is the customization guide for toolbars. With proper customization, you can increase your productivity by a high percentage.

Moreover, the book makes you ready for the AutoCAD certification exam. It has an exam preparation guide at the end of the book.

AutoCAD 2021 Tutorial First Level 2D Fundamentals

This book is a beginner-friendly tutorial series that contains 11 lessons. 2D computer-aided design basics are taught in a way that emphasizes students getting experiences in AutoCAD. The 2D-CAD strategies and ideas covered in the first few chapters are meant to be a foundation for the more complicated topics covered in later chapters.

The goal of this book is to give the reader a solid foundation on which to build knowledge and practical experience in the field of computer-aided engineering (CAE).

Moreover, this book includes a video series too. When you buy a new copy of the AutoCAD 2021 Tutorial First Level 2D Fundamentals, you can watch as many video lessons as you want for free.

AutoCAD: Secrets Every User Should Know by Dan Abbott

This book is for immediate learners. To start, you need to have basic skills in AutoCAD. However, it’s difficult to learn all the advanced tips at once. You can manage your time and make it a daily habit. In that way, you can develop your advanced skills effectively.

This reference book reveals some of AutoCAD experts’ most closely kept secrets, such as technical standards, AutoLISP programming, DOS functions, scripts, 3D, and everything in between.

The last part of the book is about LISP stuff and it’s also pretty advanced for average learners.

AutoCAD For Dummies

This book is intended for people who are new to CAD modeling. It begins at a basic stage and progresses through topics such as navigation. It covers features like the command line, line forms, arrays, and 3D modeling.

This book was created by an AutoCAD engineer with a mechanical design instructor. It shows you how to use most of the available functions step by step.

This book contains many useful 3D modeling instructions, some of which are designed specifically for beginners. You will be able to reach the level of an intermediate learner in 3D modeling if you follow the methods in this book.

However, the book doesn’t have much information on advanced topics and techniques. So, I don’t recommend this book for immediate and advanced learners.

AutoCAD 2022: A Power Guide for Beginners and Intermediate Users by CADArtifex and John Willis

The purpose of this book is to teach how to create technical drawings and models in both 2D and 3D. It was created in this manner expressly to assist those in need. Most of this book focuses on using AutoCAD’s tools and instructions, but it also covers fundamental design principles in great detail. This is an excellent topic choice.

The book covers the AutoCAD workspaces, including 3D Modeling, Drafting, and Annotation. There are 13 chapters in total. Each of the chapters has tutorials that walk you through the process step by step.

When compared to the other books reviewed in this article, the quality of this book is comparatively low.

Conclusion

As per my experiences, the best way to learn software is by learning by doing. So, my recommendation is that it’s better if you can buy both the AutoCAD Instructor book and the exercise book.

Other than books, you can also follow some AutoCAD online courses to learn AutoCAD.
